New IRS Policy on Reporting Health Insurance Coverage

The Internal Revenue Service stated that beginning in the 2018 tax season, it will not accept tax returns when tax filers have failed to indicate whether or not they had health insurance coverage during 2017.

As a reminder, the penalty for not having qualified health insurance is $695 per adult, $347.50 per child (under 18) or 2.5% of household income, whichever is greater.
